Mixer: chapter six

Chapter 6: Locked talent

“Miss Pike,” Mr. Drew says with a grave tone, “I believe someone locked your talent in the depth of your heart.”
I breathe a sigh of relief. I thought he’s going to say I don’t have the ability to do magic. So my talent is locked inside my heart huh. This isn’t any worse than having no talent at all.
“I would like to call for your parents right now to discuss this grave matter,” Mr. Drew takes out a piece of letter and pen and start writing. It just took him a few moments to write the content. He then seals the paper into an envelope and places it in the middle of a white circle drawn by a white chalk. It is drawn on a small desk next to his big desk.
“To the Rory Pike household,” Is what Mr. Drew says. Poof! The letter was gone. I stare at the spot where the letter was laid a moment ago. Then I look at Mr. Drew. He chuckle at my bewilderment.
Then a puff of white smoke appears near the window and as the white smoke slowly disappear, I see my parents standing there. Again I am so shock that once again I make my teacher laugh out loud.
“You never saw this kind of thing before Miss Pike?” He asks me while trying to regain his control but he starts to laugh when he still see my mouth open so big. I quickly straighten my face and turn to face my parents.
“Mother, father, Mr. Drew has something he would like to talk about,” I say to them.
“Please have a seat,” says Mr. Drew while beckoning my parents to sit next to me. My parents sit on my both side. Both of them have a worry look.
“Did she did something wrong?” ask my mother.
I raise my eyebrow. Why all parents do always says this first sentence whenever they were call to see their children teacher?  I was about to say something to my mother but her glare make my mouth shut tight.
“She did nothing wrong,” Mr. Drew says kindly to my mother. “I summoned you two to come is because of your daughter’s talent. Her talent is locked. Do you know about this?”
My parents look at each other, and then they turn their gaze at Mr. Drew.
“Yes Mr. Drew. We know about it. For it is we who locked her talent,” my father told Mr. Drew. I am stunned when I heard my father said they are the one who lock my talent.
“Calm down Acacia, since you have awaken we planned to tell you this but we always hesitate to tell you. Now we shall tell you and Mr. Drew too,” said my father. “Mr. Drew, can we trust you on this?”
“Yes you may but if you cannot trust me that much I will allow you to put a spell of silent on me,” says Mr. Drew. “Who knows someone might force me from talking about this secret.”
“You are right. Forgive me Mr. Drew,” says my mother to Mr. Drew.
“I understand. Better to be safe than sorry,” says Mr. Drew.
My father then murmurs some chanting and a shimmer of light engulf Mr. Drew. The light is gone when my father stop chanting. “It is done.”
“Before we begin, I shall make a ward around my lab, so that no one, other than the four of us here, can hear the conversation,” says Mr. Drew.
Mr. Drew stands up and walks toward a cupboard at the back of his desk. He opens a jar which contains a pink powder. He notices my curiosity and said to me, “We will learn about this soon my dear.”
Even though I am unsatisfied with the answer, I nod at him, trying not to be rude. He walks around the lab, chanting and pouring the powder, which later from a big square powder.
“Now we shall begin,” says Mr. Drew after putting the jar back and cleans his hand.
I look at my mother and father and see that their face is full of seriousness. I gulp. I rarely see their face like this. Only once did I see it. It was during the day of my awakening. The atmosphere around us have become severe and I wonder,
                What is the secret?
