Chapter 5: A friend and the meeting
The three of us stands there and no one is talking. Then Jane speaks.
“What are you looking at? You never see a couple arguing?” she glares at me.
I shrug and is about to walk away when Jason speaks. “Jane! I’m so feed up with you. We are not a couple. Since when do I start going out with you? Stop this nonsense. There are a lot of other boys who loves you more than I did.”
“I don’t want boys other than you. You are special to me. I will not give up on you!” she is full of persistent.
I don’t care what they are talking about since it is not my business. I have walked a few steps when the boy, Jason, calls me. I turn back and say, “I will not tell anyone about this. Please ignore me and continue your conversation but not so loud for this is library. Good bye.”
I left them on the spot without glancing back, though I know that the boy is staring at me and the girl’s killing glare at me too. I go outside, to the school garden, which is filling with spring flowers. I feel relaxed whenever I’m near flowers, or to be precise, when I am near the elements of nature.
I found a bench and sit down. Behind the bench stands a huge oak tree. Its leaves dance when a warm breeze blows. I stare at the garden, taking in the beautiful scene. I was busy reading the fifth chapter of eon when a shadow looms over me. I frown and look up. The figure is the boy who lends me the book, Loren.
“Hello there, it is almost time for lunch. Let’s go together,” he says to me with a friendly tone.
My frown eases when I know that it is him. He is the first person who is kind to me, even if he called me an idiot. I reject his kind offer, “I’m sorry but I’m afraid I will not have lunch for the price is too high for me.”
“Really? But they are not that expensive. Noodles and rice with vegetables only cost 2 dollar,” he says to me.
“But during lunch I saw that a plate of noodles costs six dollar,” I tell him.
“Ah. You must have when to the expensive footstall. That one is for those who are rich. Let’s go, I’ll treat you,” he urges me to go. I have no choice but to put away my book and follow him to the cafeteria.
It seems like what he said is true. I have wandered off to the rich section. People stare when I enter the cafeteria but I know they are staring at him. I can even hear some of the girls whisper to each other.
“Hey, isn’t he Loren?” says girl one.
“No way! That Loren?” said girl two. “He is the one who is entitled the prince of Avalon and who have heard two elements calling to him?”
“Why is there a girl next to him?” ask girl number three.
“Loren doesn’t like to have girls around him but why is the newcomer walking next to him?” says girl number one.
“Argh! It is so frustrating!” wail girl number two.
It seems like I have become famous in this school. I sighed heavily. My life is going to be very entertaining starting today. As we both order our food (Loren was shocked when he saw that I ordered two plates of spaghetti), Jason and Jane come into the cafeteria.
Jane is still clinging to Jason and Jason is trying to shake her off him. They then stop and look at me when they notice me. Loren notices their stare and turn around to face them. He then smile when he sees it was Jason.
“hey Jason. How’s the trip to your grandmother place?”
“It was quite fun,” says Jason. “How about you?”
“Same old same old.”
They chit chat comfortably for a moment and I receive nothing but a cold glare from Jane. I wonder what I had done to make her feel mad at me. I quickly grab our lunch and calls for Loren, so that I can get away from that girl’s deathly glare.
I ask Loren to talk about himself while I gobble down the food. He tells me that he is the prince of Avalon and he is the t-stage of calling being. This surprises me. I expected him to lie to me but then I remember that fairies don’t like to lie.
When he asks about my background, I hesitate. I don’t know whether I should talk about my differences; my specialty. Then I remember that Mr. Drew calls for me to meet him in his laboratory. I quickly apologize and tell him about my meeting and he tells me the location. Then I leave him alone in the cafeteria due to lack of time. He forgives me, smiles and says goodbye. It takes me 2 minute to arrive at Mr. Drew laboratory. I walk in and says hello to him.
“Miss. Pike, please have a seat,” he gesture a chair which is in front of him. I sit down and look at him.
“I call you here to inspect you,” he stops talking and look at me for a while, then he continue, “by magic. Is it ok to you?”
“May I know why sir?” I ask him due to curiosity.
“I want to see do you have the talent of magic. I have never encountered pure beings or mixers which cannot do magic. I would like to inspect you about this cannot so magic issue of yours. May I?”
I give him my permission and he place is left hand on me. His hand which is place on my forehead glows when he murmurs some words which is strange to me. Sweat appears on his forehead and his hand retreat from my forehead. He looks at me with a grave expression. His stare makes me uncomfortable.
“What have he inspected in me?” this is what I thought when I sees his grave expression.
