Chapter 4: spells, failure and enemy
“Good morning young ladies and gentlemen,” said Mr. Drew, my spells and magic teacher. “It’s good to have you here. Today I am going to teach you a spell on how to revive flowers that are half wilted.”
I feel eager to study magic for since I was young I always wish that magic exists. Maybe being a mixer doesn’t feel that bad after all.
“Now boys and girls, repeat what I said,” said Mr. Drew. “Rinno Rinna Revive!”
“Rinno Rinna Revive!” the whole class said.
The half wilted flowers on every student’s tables start to change. Their colors become brighter and they starts to revive. All students flowers become fresh except one. That’s me. Mr. Drew sees the situation I’m in and approaches me.
“Miss Pike, can you please repeat the chant again?”
“Rinno Rinna Revive!”
….Nothing happens to the flower. It is the same half wilted flower. I try for a few times again but the result is the same. My cheeks glow from embarrassment. My new classmates mock at me. Some laugh, some expressionless.
“Now class, calm down. It’s not a good attitude to laugh at someone’s failure. Would you like it if someone laughs at you because you have fail to do a spell?” Mr. Drew said with a stern tone.
The whole class quiet down after hearing Mr. Drew comment. I spent the rest of the time repeating the same spell but still nothing happened. The others learn the second spell while I am still stuck at the first spell. The bell then rings, a gesture for the 4th period.
“Miss Pike I would like to speak with you,” Mr. Drew calls me when I was about to go out.
“I would like to come and see me in my laboratory during lunch time. Is it fine to you?”
I give him a yes and I was sent away. I was walking in the empty hallway, fussing about why can’t I do magic but the painting hang on the wall take away my attention. It attracts me. It is the painting of fairies dancing near a waterfall, with wings attaches their back. The painting may look ordinary to everyone; even I think like that at first but the more I look at it the more I feel that I was one of them, dancing with them. I’m so mesmerized by the painting that I didn’t notice that someone is standing behind me, until that person speaks.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” it is a male voice.
I quickly turn around and voila, another handsome guy with light brown hair and eyes, age around 25.
“Yes, it sure is beautiful,” I said partly to me and partly to him. With a last glance at the painting, I gave the guy a nod and a smile and left towards the library with a thinking in my mind.
“What is wrong with today? I keep on meeting handsome guys. Did I wear some perfume that can attract boys?”
I shake off the thought and go to the library, with the book, eon, on my hand. As I find a seat in the library, I’m quickly captivated into the story of eon, not knowing that Jason is there. Not knowing that he is having an argument with the girl who tried to trip me this morning. When I heard a girl shouting, it’s too late to turn back now.
For I have made an enemy in my first day of school.
“Jane, I said countless time that we are not in a relationship, I don’t have that feeling I have with you. I treat you as a friend, not as a lover. Can u stop clinging and kissing me in public? Just because I did not push you away don’t mean that I like you.” He says to her with an impatient tone.
“Then what does it mean? I like you Jason and I want you to e my boyfriend,” Jane says with a plea tone.
“I don’t want to embarrass you in front of the crowd!” he almost shouts. “If you do the same action the next time, I will not forgive your action.”
Then they notice my existence. The girl fume with anger and embarrassment while the boy smile an uncomfortable smile.
Here comes my trouble.
