Chapter 7: Wild Magic
“Her magic is wild,” says my father. “She can do magic since she was one year old. This will bring danger to her so in order to protect her from harm; we decided to lock her magic by using this pendant. This pendant had the ability to lock her magic. It was given by a mysterious monk who once sheltered at my house.”
“Her magic is so powerful, more powerful than any of us. The monk said that her magic is equal to the king and queen of Avalon. She is the strongest magic wielder, other than the king and queen. He said he fear for the safety of my child so he gave us the pendant. The pendant can allow my daughter to have a fraction of magic but to unleash all, I do not know. ”
Mr. Drew is deep in thought and I notice that he keep touching his beard by using his left hand. Then he speaks, “This is strange. We usually obtained our magic from the mother of nature when we were five years old. But, there are some legends saying when evil rise, one person and beings who she selected to follow her, will be the ones who will protect us.”
“Is the legend having anything to do with me? What is wild magic and what difference does it make? Will I be able to use my magic?” I ask them, lots of question swimming in my head.
“Perhaps my dear,” says Mr. Drew. “As for your magic girl, I think it will be best if you attend a private lesson with me at night. I will ask for permission from the principal. Don’t worry, I won’t tell her. I’ll just make up some excuses.” He gives me a big grin, eyes twinkle with mischief. It seems like he enjoy playing a trick on the principal.
“As for wild magic, I have read about it before in a book. It is an old magic and in order to unleash the power totally, you need to know your true name; name of birth given by Mother Nature. What you have now is just a fraction of it. That’s all I know.”
Then he looks at my parents. “Do not worry. I will put a ward on my laboratory. If someone is coming, the warning bell will ring. Now can I have your permission to untie the pendant during lesson time?”
My parents approve and left the school. Mr. Drew says he will give me the schedule in the nest lesson, which will be tomorrow. I glance at my watch and sees that the clock show a quarter past one, which mean I have already miss 15 minutes of my next lesson, English literature. Mr. Drew scribble something on a piece of paper and give it to me; telling me to give it to Mr. Anderson.
As I walked into the class, I am shock that the mysterious guy who talked to me about the fairies painting is the tutor who is going to teach me English literature. He smiles at me and take the paper from my hand. Not only that, it seems like I am having the same class with Jason, Loren and also the girl, Jane. They are sitting on a same table. Loren waves at me, motion me to sit next to him. I obey with reluctance.
“You’re late. Is it because of Mr. Drew?” Loren asks me as soon as I settle down next to him.
“Yeah, he tested me and turns out I can’t do magic,” I says with a sad and frustrating tone. I can’t believe I am such a good actor.
Jane and Jason heard my conversation with Loren.
“I’m sorry to hear this, um…” says Jason.
“Acacia, that’s my name.”
“My name is Jason. Nice to meet you,” he says with a smile.
“So, you can’t do magic,” says Jane. “Sorry to hear that.”
It does not sound sorry. Instead it sounds like a snicker. Loren detects her snicker and shoots her a glare, with startle Jane. She shrug stare outside. The three of us just focus in what Mr. Anderson teaches for the rest of the time. When the lesson ends, Loren asks for my face book and I give it to him. He told me to online later at 9pm and I just say “let’s see about it.”
I don’t know what possess me. I open my face book just as he request and we chat for like an hour. I can still remember what we chat in the internet. He said he want to see me first thing tomorrow at school. He said he will wait for me outside. He said…he said… that is what in my mind before I drift into deep slumber.
